A series of small gardens in Belgravia, London SW1: I was asked to turn a small lane and series of narrow passages linking four cottages into linear courtyard gardens. The site was full of pipes and cables and it was difficult to get sufficient soil depth, and drainage, to make a proper garden, but we managed it. Despite these restrictions, the planting, especially the climbers, has flourished and, on a warm evening, the air is perfumed.
